May 3,1991 FIN – On April 23 the ownership of Brighton-Best Socket Screw & Mfg. Co., Inc., Teaneck, New Jersey, acquired the assets, including stock, of American Socket Screw Manufacturing Co. from SEP American Fastener Corp., the U.S. operation of the British-based SEP Industrial Holdings.

According to Perry Rosenstein, president of Brighton-Best, American Socket Screw will operate at “arms length” from Brighton-Best as a separate company.
Heading up the operations of American Socket Screw is Walter Collyer, who will continue as vice president sales and marketing. It is anticipated that Collyer will relocate to American Socket Screw’s national headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
American Socket Screw, formerly a part of Bristol Locknut, was acquired by SEP in 1988. SEP acquired Precision Socket Screw, Billerica, Massachusetts, which was headed by Collyer, in 1989. The assets of Precision Socket Screw, which became the eastern division of American Socket Screw, are also included in the acquisition.
It is the intention of the new ownership, Rosenstein tells FIN, to make American Socket Screw a supplier of competitively priced, domestically produced socket screw products (emphasizing semi-standard products), as well as dowel pins, keys, and shaft collars
American Socket Screw has operations in Dallas, Texas; Billerica, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; Cleveland, Ohio, and Atlanta, Georgia. Brighton-Best was formed in 1969 as the result of a merger between the Best Socket Screw Co., founded in 1966, and the Brighton Screw & Mfg. Co., which was founded in 1925 in CIncinnati, Ohio. Brighton-Best operates 22 wholly-owned warehouses in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. ©1991/2015 Fastener Industry News.
