January 11, 2008 FIN – The abandoned Reliant Fastener factory in downtown Rock Falls, IL, burned to the ground December 28.

The factory was engulfed in flames by the time fire crews arrived shortly after 5 p.m. Fourteen fire departments were called in to keep the blaze under control.
The plant opened in the early 1900s as part of the Russel Burdsall & Ward Bolt & Nut Company. In 1990 it was sold and renamed Reliant Fastener and the plant was shuttered in 2002.
SaukValley.com reported the building had been owned by the city since 2006.
No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
SaukValley.com reported a city official speculated the fire may have been started by homeless people trying to get warm. ©2008/2014 Fastener Industry News.
