1985 FIN – Distributor Sales Opens New Stocking Service Center

March 15, 1985 FIN – Distributor Sales, Incorporated, a new stocking service center for distributors only, is now open for business at 251 So. 31st street, Kenilworth, NJ 07033 Tel: (201) 245-2400.

The new fastener service center, housed in a 25,000 sq. ft. facility, is patterned on the model of the manner and Associates Elk Grove Village, Illinois, service center and will stock the same items in 1/4 kegs as the Elk Grove Village service center. That includes fastener items from the Ivaco Fastener Group, consisting of Infasco, Infasco Nut Company, Ingersoll Fastener, IFC (Fasteners) Incorporated and IFC (Bolt) Incorporated.

Joel Hammer, Sanford Leavitt, Robert Prince and Sheldon Ackerman (manager of the new facility) established the new service center to serve the northeast and north central states and obviously are looking to repeat in the east what Hammer & Associates has done so successfully in the Midwest in a relatively few years.

In July 1978 Hammer and Jim Vattis created Delta Re-Thread on Elmhurst Road in Elk Grove Village, a secondary shop for distributors only.

That shop doubled in size over the next four years and today it’s capable of cutting, chamfering and cut threading up to 1 1/2″ diameter fasteners in any material, in Class 3 fit and metric. It can also drill, drill and tap, cross drill and make oil bolts and clevis pins from standard hex bolt products. It also has a slotter and cam slot hex cap screw and other cold-headed products.

In 1970, J. Hammer & Associates Ltd. was formed to represent Infasco (then known as Industrial Fasteners, Ltd.) and the other members of the Ivaco Fastener Group on direct mill shipments to fastener distributor specialists.

In the fall of 1982, Hammer convinced Infasco that it could complement its direct mill business if it placed a large inventory of its products in the Chicago area.

All three members of the Ivaco Fastener Group participated and IFC (Fasteners) Inc. and IFC (Bolt) Inc. were created to sell Ivaco fastener products from Hammer’s Elk Grove Village warehouse. MSL Stamping Group was next to stock with Hammer and as business picked up two separate moves were made to larger warehouses.

In November 1984, the company needed still more room and a move was made from the existing 25,000 sq. ft. warehouse to the present 85,000 sq. ft. office-warehouse complex at 2051 Greenleaf Avenue, Elk Grove Village.

Hammer & Associates is headed by founder and president Joel Hammer. Sanford Leavitt joined the company as vice president in June 1982. Joe Lamantia joined the J. Hammer Group in October 1983 and heads up outside sales. Alina Agrestro came aboard in November 1983 and is in charge of inside sales and the office staff. Joel Hammer is vice president of Distributor Sales and Leavitt is the president of that concern. ©1985/2009 Fastener Industry News.
