1985 FIN – IFI Adds Associate Membership Category

April 15, 1985 – The Industrial Fasteners Institute announced a “Associate Member” category for companies that design and manufacture equipment, supply raw materials or supply services commonly used by North American producers of industrial fasteners or formed parts.

Associate members will strengthen and enrich the IFI through their technical contributions to the Institute and its members, said IFI chairman Robert J. Sherlock, general sales manager of Stelco Fastener & Forging Company.

There are 15 initial associate members: Beneke Wire Co. Louisville, KY; Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Point, MD; Brankamp Process Automation Inc., Cambridge, MA; Carpenter Technology Corp., Reading, PA; Charter Rolling, Saukville, WI; Impax Systems division of Nuvatec Inc., New York, NY; LTV Steel Co., Bar Products division, Cleveland, OH; Midland-Ross Corp., Toledo, OH; Raritan River Steel Co., Perth Amboy, NJ; Reed Rolled Thread Die Co., Holden, MA; Rico Machine Co. Inc., Bristol, RI; Rockford Mfg. Group Inc., Roscoe, IL; and U.S. Steel Corp., Pittsburgh, PA.

1986 FIN – IFI Forms Supplier Advisory Council

March 24, 1986 FIN – The Industrial Fasteners Institute announced the formation of its new Supplier Advisory Council. William A. Booth, vice president of marketing for National Machinery Co. of Tiffin, OH, is the first council chairman.

The council begins with 22 North American companies with IFI associate member status: AFI Industries Inc., Elk Grove Village, IL; Aluminum Company of America, Wire, Rod & Bar division, Massena, NY; Beneke Wire Co., Louisville, KY; Bethlehem Steel Corp., Sparrows Point Rod Making, Bethlehem, PA; Brankamp Process Automation Inc., Cambridge, MA; Carpenter Technology Corp., Reading, PA; Charter Rolling division of Charter Mfg. Co. Inc., Saukville, WI; GSE Inc., Farmington Hills, MI; Herron Testing Laboratories Inc., Cleveland, OH; Impax Systems division of Nuvatec Inc., Downers Grove, IL; Ivaco Inc., Montreal, Canada; Kobe Steel America Inc., New York, NY; LTV Steel Co., Cleveland, OH; National Machinery Co. Inc., Tiffin, OH; Reed Rolled Thread Die Co., Holden, MA; Rico Machine Co. Inc., Bristol, RI; Rockford Mfg. Group Inc., Roscoe, IL; Stelco Inc., Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; Surface Combustion division of Midland-Ross Corp., Toledo, OH; TRW Greenfield Tap & Die, Greenfield, MA; U.S. Steel Corp., Pittsburg, PA; and Walker Wire & Steel Co., Ferndale, MI.

IFI supplier members are companies that design and manufacture equipment, supply raw materials or supply services commonly use by North American producers of industrial fasteners and formed parts.

The new council is an outgrowth of the Associate Member class of membership the IFI established in 1985. When that group was first established there were 15 associate member companies – 13 of which are members of the new group.
