March 19, 1990 FIN – Ford Motor Co. has presented its Q1 Preferred Quality Award to a number of fastener companies.
The Q1 Award criteria entails a comprehensive review of plant quality practices and performance by an ad hoc team of specialists from both the assembly plant and the product engineering office that designs the parts. Among other things, Ford pays particular attention to a plant’s ability to maintain quality while implementing new manufacturing processes and a supplier’s statistical methods focus on preventing defects rather than finding defects at the end of the line.
Receiving the award were the following companies:
 •  Rockford Products Corp., Rockford, Illinois, which was nominated by Ford’s Electronic Fuel Handling division, a producer of cold formed fasteners and components located in Rockford, Illinois.
 •  Spirol International Corp., headquartered in Danielson, Connecticut, has two operations in Danielson, Connecticut and an operation in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, which produce coiled spring pins, slotted spring pins, spacers, inserts, shims, stampings, and other fasteners.
 •  Seaway Bolt & Specials Corp., Columbia Station, Ohio, a manufacturer of special threaded and headed products such as pipe plugs, drain plugs, filler plugs, rod products, and some types of bolts.

 •   General Motors has presented the Precision Forming Division of Elco Industries, Inc., with its Mark of Excellence award.
Elco, the 94th company to earn the award out of 2,400 suppliers, is the first fastener manufacturer to be recognized, according to Elco.
The precision forming division, located in Rockford, Illinois, manufactures specialty fasteners, parts, components, and sub-assemblies.  ©1990/2015 Fastener Industry News.
