April 27, 1992 FIN – Stephen “Steve” A. Matthews, president of Secure Fastener & Tools Co., Inc., Carlstadt, New Jersey, was the recipient of the first leadership award presented by the Associate Advisory Leadership Council (AALC).

The award for dedication and leadership to the fastener industry was given to Matthews at the National Fastener Distributors Association annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, April 1-5.
The award, which will not be an annual presentation but given only when the AALC feels that exceptional merit should be rewarded, was bestowed on a completely unsuspecting Matthews at the general session.
Matthews, 49, has been in the fastener business for 26 years, all of that time spent with Secure Fastener. He and his wife, Judy Matthews, the vice president of Secure Fasteners, joined the company (founded by Judy’s father Eli Ogulnick in 1958) after he graduated from Kansas State University. They agreed that they would only be there temporarily and then look for permanent jobs elsewhere.
Steve, who this year retired as a director of NFDA, founded the NFDA memorial Scholarship Program in 1989. ©1992/2014 Fastener Industry News.
