1992 FIN – Penn Engineering Marks 50th Anniversary

March 30, 1992 FIN – Penn Engineering & Manufacturing Corp.,Danboro, Pennsylvania, the nation’s leading manufacturer of self-clinching fasteners and installation presses, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Founded in 1942 by businessman K.A. Swanstrom. Penn Engineering began production of its first fastener, a steel weld nut, in 1943 from a rented section of a stocking mill in New Britain, Pennsylvania. Today the company, headquartered in Danboro, PA, has manufacturing facilities in Winston-Salem, NC and Suffolk, VA, as well as international operations in Doncaster, England. Kenneth L. Swanson, son of the company’s founder, is now president.
In 1970, Penn Engineering acquired the Pittman Corp., Sellersville, Pennsylvania, a manufacturer of dc motors; and, in 1986, the company purchased Standard Insert Co., Pacoima, California, a manufacturer of inserts.
Today the company’s PEM brand self-clinching fastener and installation presses are used all over the world in the electronics, automotive, aerospace and other industries.
