1996 FIN – European Plants Near Capacity

International News  July 17, 1996 FIN – The majority of European fastener manufacturers reported to the European Industrial Fasteners Institute that they are operating near capacity.
Auto industry business was reported good, but construction was lagging.
Major problems reported to the EIFI include margins, raw material supply and rising steel prices.

 

•The Rawplug Company Inc., New Rochelle, New York, USA, acquired a majority interest in the Australian and New Zealand branch offices to form Rawplug Australasia Pty Ltd. The announcement was made by Rawl president Fred Powers Jr. and four directors of Rawplug Australia, Andrew Jamison, Philip Rose, Derek Chapman and Peter Gillon.
“We have long recognized the growth potential of the Australian and New Zealand construction business, and can now provide the financial, technical and manufacturing support that is needed to build a strong and successful presence in this part of the world,” Powers said.
Rawplug started producing concrete and masonry anchors 74 years ago. Today Rawplug also manufactures mechanical and adhesive anchors, roofing fasteners, carbide drill bits and related products. Approximately 60% of Rawplug’s business comes from products developed in the last decade.

• Nylok Fastener Corporation, Macomb, Michigan USA, held a licensing conference for more than 20 representatives from 10 countries in June in Detroit, Michigan. The conference included technical product presentations, a review of Nylok’s legal considerations and marketing materials. Attendees toured a Ford assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan, and Nylok’s headquarters.

• Hitachi Power Tools USA, Ltd. will relocate its U.S. assembly operations to a larger facility this fall.
Hitachi president Shintaro Shingyoji said the demand for a new 10″ saw is “far greater than projected. That, coupled with the limited production capacity of our current facility, prompted a need for product allocation.”
Hitachi manufactures pneumatic and electric power tools, including nailers, staplers, and collated fasteners, in China, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the U.S.
