October 2, 2009 FIN – Falcon Metal Corporation is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2009.
Founded by Bruce Roberts in 1979, Falcon began operating as an industrial fastener distributor in a rented office/warehouse in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In August 1985, Falcon Metal moved to its present location at 10715 John Price Rd, Charlotte, NC 28273. The building was expanded in 2003 to 17,6000 sq ft on its 2 1/2 acres property.
Falcon now also operates two branch facilities in South Carolina.
Falcon changed its focus in the late 1990’s from a traditional fastener distributor to managing Class C components for OEMs. Class C components represent a small portion of the company spending, yet represent a large number of sku’s. The goal of Falcon Metal programs is for the customer to always have access to the products at point of use, while Falcon Metal works with the distinct manufacturers/vendors. Falcon Metal has established customer site branches.
The National Fastener Distributors Association honored Roberts with a life membership at the organization’s 40th anniversary meeting in 2008.

Roberts started in the fastener industry in 1964 with B&G Mfg. Co. of Hatfield, PA, and advanced to general manager. In 1977 he became general manager of Watson Metal of Kenilworth, NJ. Roberts was the 1992 president of NFDA and was a member of the Southeastern Fastener Association board.

Roberts recalled naming the company Falcon because there were already fastener firms using the Eagle name. “I felt that the next best thing to an Eagle was a Falcon as Ford had already spent a lot of money to advertise their popular Ford Falcon,” Robert reminisced. “I called it Metal Corporation instead of Fasteners because I had been introduced to some profitable stainless pipe hanger products and to accommodate the fasteners as well as the pipe hanger products I made the name Falcon Metal Corporation.”

Roberts retired in January 2008 and was succeeded by Don Nowak as president and owner.

Industry veteran Nowak had joined Falcon as vice president in 1997 from Hoyt Fasteners in Chicago. Nowak was twice president of the Chicago Bolt, Nut & Screw Association.

In 2009, Falcon purchased the assets of Louisville, KY-based C&M Industrial Solutions, creating a branch in Kentucky.

Falcon is “thanking our customers for a successful 30 years” by holding parties at its South Carolina branches, as well as hosting a BBQ lunch and raffle prize drawing at our Charlotte location on October 16.

Many Falcon Metal employees have been with the company for 10 to 20+ years and the company has been recognized as one of the 20 Best Places to Work, by the Charlotte Business Journal. Web: Falconmetal.com  ©2009 / 2011 Fastener Industry News
