The Fastener Training Institute and Industrial Fasteners Institute co-produced their first interactive training webinar, “Thread Fit Matters,” in August, and more webinars are planned.

FTI president John Wachman of Desert Distribution Sales LLC said the goal is to “make fastener product training more easily available and affordable. The interactive webinar format is a perfect medium for us.”
Joe Greenslade, IFI director of engineering technology, was instructor for the inaugural webinar.
FTI board member Andy Cohn of Duncan Bolt said the webinar “was well attended and received. We picked Joe Greenslade to kick off this new training format because of his industry reputation and knowledge and we were not disappointed.”

The next webinar will be 8 a.m. Pacific time, September 26, 2014, with Carmen Vertullo of CarVer Consulting presenting “Fastener Coatings & Platings.” The one-hour presentation will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.

Wachman said more webinars will be announced soon.  For webinar information, contact Jo Morris. Email: JoM@FastenerTraining.com  Web: FastenerTraining.org

FTI is a non-profit organization offering beginning to advanced training on fastener products, standards and specifications.

The Los Angeles Fastener Association created the Fastener Training Institute in 2008 after developing its Certified Fastener Specialist program.  Earlier this year, FTI became an independent organization which provides a platform for education and training to other parts of the country.
Board members are Jennifer Harder, Empire Bolt & Screw; Dallas Puckett, Valley Nut & Bolt; Tim Roberto Jr., Star Stainless; Wachman and Cohn.

A separate but related Fastener Education Foundation also was created during 2014 to “enhance public safety through fastener education,” by raising funds for education and research.
When the FTI organization was formed, Pacific-West Fastener Association then-president Tracy Lehman of Pacific Warehouse Sales credited Jim Law, Salim Brahim, Laurence Claus, Kelly Cole, Vertullo, Cohn and Wachman for their roles in developing FTI.
