Charter Wire Opening New Wisconsin Facility

Charter Wire is beginning production of wire at a new 160,000 sq ft manufacturing plant in Wisconsin’s Menomonee Valley.
Full production is expected by the end of the year.

The $20 million new facility is 15,000 sq ft smaller than the 70-year-old 175,000 sq ft plant in Milwaukee’s historic Third Ward.

More than a quarter of the equipment in the Menomonee plant will be new.

Wisconsin’s Biz Times reported that in the old plant employees touch a product eight to nine times during the manufacturing process. New efficiencies drop that to an average of five times in the new facility.

The 2,500-plus trucks bringing supplies in or product out will have an easier time than in the urban location.

Rad-Con Inc. is supplying the 100% hydrogen annealing furnace system for recrystallize annealing of low-carbon drawn wire. The new system also gives Charter the capability to anneal alloy steels for specialty applications.

Charter Wire, a division of the Charter Manufacturing, supplies cold finish bar, cold-rolled steel custom profiles, flat wire and shaped wire. Charter Wire is in thousands of products from manufacturers around the world in industries such as aeronautics, agriculture, appliances, automotive, consumer electronics, construction, defense, energy, general machinery, hand tools, lawn and garden, recreation and petroleum. ©2009 GlobalFastenerNews.com
