Powers Fasteners was founded in 1921 by Frederic Booth Powers Sr as Rawlplug Co.

In 1995 the company was renamed Powers Fasteners Inc. as part of international expansion plans.

Frederic Booth Powers Jr. succeeded his father as chairman and president. Under Powers Jr. the company expanded in construction and plant maintenance markets and added manufacturing facilities in Michigan, Indianapolis and Chicago; acquired a Canadian firm; and established 28 regional sales locations. Facilities were opened in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Southeast Asia.

The fourth generation included four sons active in the business. Stephen Powers, who managed the Powers IT sector and was business manager for eight overseas Powers companies, died in 2008 in a motorcycle crash.
