” Publisher Mike McGuire renamed his product directory from Fastening to American Fastener Journal Fastener Buyers” Guide. An online version is planned.
Fastening was first published as a quarterly magazine in March 1995 for application engineers and OEM purchasing agents. By the September 1996 issue, McGuire proclaimed Fastening “the most popularly read fastener magazine in the world by better than 2 to 1!”
Fastening promoted the new Fastening Design & Application Engineering Expo first held in October 1996 at the Novi Expo Center in suburban Detroit. The trade show, produced by Jim Bannister and McGuire, was designed to “attract key personnel from original equipment manufacturing companies in the rich Midwest marketplace,” McGuire wrote in 1996. The event was canceled after its second year in 1997.
When Fastening was an OEM-oriented magazine, McGuire”s buyer guide was named American Fastener Source Guide. McGuire renamed the guide Fastening five years ago.
Both Fastening and the trade show featured manufacturers marketing directly to OEMs, creating a controversy with distributors who sell to OEMs.
