1992 FIN – J.C. MacElroy and Steel Technologies Merge

February 15, 1992 FIN – J.C. MacElroy Co. Inc., a marine construction distributor based in Piscataway, New Jersey, acquired Steel Technologies Corp. of Jersey City, NJ, a custom steel fabricator and manufacturer with roots back to 1859.
Steel Technologies, formerly the W. Ames Co., provides marine hardware, custom steel fabrication and industrial, construction and railroad fasteners, as well as specialty fasteners.  In-house operations include: machining, forging, bending, welding and coating.
With the merger, Steel Technologies president Bart Spota told FIN it has become a division of J.C. MacElroy and will continue to be its principal manufacturing arm.
“We’ve combined these businesses to strengthen our ability to deliver value and quality service to our customers, the infrastructure and power generation builders of the 90’s,” Spota told FIN. “The merger makes sense because the customer base of both companies is similar, and the efficiencies we gain will improve our competitive position in the marketplace.”
The company serves the marine, power generation, heavy construction and railroad industries, among others, both in the U.S. and around the world. Its customers include companies of all sizes as well as government units.
J.C. MacElroy will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year. The company is the largest U.S. distributor of marine fenders manufactured by Goodyear and provides mooring devices, dock hardware, fabricated steel and tie back systems. Through Steel Technologies, it can provide complete inhouse fabrication of steel products.
Both companies are family owned and operated.
The Steel Technologies division will continue to manufacture, inventory and ship from its 60,000 sq ft facility located on four acres in Jersey City. Headquarters is at 91 Ethel Rd. West, Piscataway, NJ 08855-1372. Tel: (201) 572-7100 Fax (908) 572-7112. ©1992/2013 Fastener Industry News.
