Grade 8s, miniatures and Nylon insert flange nuts are the fastest- growing segments of the Nylon Insert market, Continental-Aero president Marty Schneider said in a Southwestern Fastener Expo conference session on locknuts.\
Brass, aluminum and 316 stainless sales also are up, he added. Schneider predicted import prices will continue to go up next year.
Taiwanese makers particularly have experienced limited profitability the last few years, Schneider observed. Facing viability issues, they are left with little choice but to increase their prices.
Harrison, NJ-based Continental-Aero has warehouses in Illinois, California and Texas.
Nylon insert locknuts hold the mating part 100 times better than a hex nut, Schneider said.
The U.S. Fastener Quality Act, originally passed in 1990 and amended and implemented in 1999, increased focus on quality, reliability and traceability, Schneider finds. Nylon insert sales, particularly of branded manufacturers, have dramatically increased across the board.
