General Fasteners’ Displaced Workers Eligible for Federal TAA Program

Former General Fasteners Company employees in Richmond, Indiana, are eligible for services under the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance program, pal-item.com reported.
The TAA program is available to workers displaced from jobs due to imported products or shifts of production out of the country.

The U.S. Department of Labor ruled this month that General Fasteners employees totally or partially separated from their jobs since January 27, 2009, for the following two years.

The TAA program assists unemployed workers prepare for and obtain other jobs, including job search and relocation allowances and training.

The Labor department also certified General Fasteners’ older employees for the Re-employment Trade Adjustment Assistance.

Pal-Item.com – the web edition of the Richmond Pallaium-Item newspaper – reported a significant number of over age 50 employees’ skills are not easily transferable to new jobs. They may choose between regular TAA benefits or a wage subsidy of 50 percent of the difference between their new salary and old salary, up to $12,000.
