MSC Increases MRO Fastener Offerings By 40%

John Wolz

MSC Industrial Supply Company published its “Fastener Source Book” with a 40% increase in the number of fasteners as part of an effort to expand its fastener business. MSC now offers 42,000 fastener products among its 550,000 industrial products from 3,000 suppliers to 390,000 U.S. customers.

“We have talked with our customers to determine what we could do to become their #1 supplier of fastener products,” senior director of MRO & purchasing Greg Levy explained. “We have determined that in addition to an extensive line of socket products, our customers highly value a full range of quality grades, sizes, materials and leading industry brands at competitive prices.” The expanded fastener offerings plus a half million MRO and metalworking products “position us to fulfill virtually all of our customers’ needs from one source.”

MSC distributes 50,000 source books and it is available online at MSCdirect.com. Levy rated the new Fastener Source Book as easier for customers to find the products they need and includes technical information.

Product manager Lou Cutalo Jr noted that “fastener products are used across virtually every industry segment.”

“Many of the new items we have added, such as a full line of stainless steel fasteners, will enable MSC to provide an even higher level of service to our customers,” Cutalo said.

Fiscal 2007 sales for the NYSE-listed company totaled $1.7 billion, up 28.1% from fiscal 2006.

Founded in 1941 by Sid Jacobson as Sid Tool, MSC Industrial published its first catalog in 1964. Today MSC has 95 branch sales offices with 814 sales people; four fulfillment centers: Atlanta, Elkhart, IN; Harrisburg, PA; and Reno; and is headquartered at 75 Maxess Rd., Melville, NY 11747-3151.
