New CEO Takes Helm at ITW

With the death of Illinois Tool Works CEO David Speer, investors are taking a closer look at the company’s new leader.

The Glenview, IL-based manufacturer named E. Scott Santi, 51, CEO, effective immediately. Santi has been acting CEO since Speer’s medical leave began in October.

ITW also announced Robert Morrison, 70, was elected non-executive board chair. He was named acting non-executive chairman in October, and has been an independent director since 2003.

Santi, 51, joined ITW in 1983 and has spent his entire career with the company. He was elected executive vice president of ITW’s global welding businesses in 2004 and elected vice chairman in 2008.
He also serves as a director of Grainger.

Santi graduated from the University of Illinois in 1983 with a bachelors in accounting and and received a MBA from Northwestern University in 1992.

Santi serves on the advisory board for Northwestern University’s master of manufacturing and management program. He is also a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Economic Club of Chicago, and the Executives Club of Chicago.

He and his wife Nancy are founding sponsors of the LEARN Excel charter school through the New Schools for Chicago Fund. ©2012 Fastener Industry News
