Report: UK Fastener Market Tops $1.55b in 2006

In a new report, Market & Business Development Ltd. estimates 2006 sales for the UK industrial fastener market will reach �795.6 million (US$1.55 billion), reflecting 36% growth since 2002, according to MBD.
MBD predicts demand for threaded fasteners increased 11% in 2006 to �664.5 million (US$1.29b) and says growth has been a feature of the market. Overall growth reached 45% between 2002 and 2006 to account for 84% of the total market last year.
After double digit declines in 2002 (13%) and 2003 (17%), sales of non-threaded fasteners increased to �128.9 million (US$250.95m) in 2005, while gaining a 2% increase in 2006 to top �131.1 million (US$255.2m).
MBD anticipates moderate growth in the fastener sector during 2007-2011, projecting overall demand will increase by 16% in real terms, reaching �839.9 million (US$1.64b at 2006 prices) by 2011. The forecast notes the likelihood of “reduced demand from some end-use industries,” including automotive.
MBD expects continued demand growth for threaded fasteners, with sales growing 5% to �699.3 million (US$1.36b at 2006 prices) by 2011. Demand for non-threaded fasteners is also expected to grow between 1% and 2% annually, reaching �140.6 million (US$273.7m at 2006 prices) in 2011.
UK demand for screws is expected to increase 7% between 2006 and 2011, reaching �161 million (US$313.4m at 2006 prices) by 2011. Bolt demand should grow 4% by 2011, accounting for 44% of total market share. And sales of nuts are expected to jump 8% to �142.9 million (US$278m at 2006 prices) by 2011, accounting for 17% of total demand for industrial fasteners.
Imports have gained market share in the UK industrial fasteners sector. MBD projects the value of imported industrial fasteners to gain 11% to an anticipated �665.7 million (US$1.3b at 2006 prices) by 2011.
