” Joseph Voves will retire as president of Metric & Multistandard Components Corp. at the end of 2005. Voves founded the company in 1963 with partners Milan Peske and Alois Hacaj.
Voves, 84, began his working career in the hotel business in Europe. After escaping the former Czechoslovakia at the end of World War II, Voves studied in France and worked in Germany, Italy and Ethiopia. He found a temporary job in fasteners in Germany. He met Peske and Hacaj in Ethiopia and all were originally from Czechoslovakia. Voves emigrated to the U.S. for the opportunity to be rewarded for hard work.
“Upon arriving in the U.S. he remembered reading an editorial in The New York Times asserting that Volkswagen’s launch of the Beatle in America was doomed because there were no sources for metric fasteners and tools in the U.S.,” his son Joseph J. Voves recalled.
Peske retired in 2004 and Hacaj died in 1995. The original three families are still represented in the company by the second generation: Ivo Peske, Rosemary Hacaj and Joseph J. Voves.
