STAFDA: 72% of Distributor Members Sell Threaded Fasteners

The Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association opens Sunday in Charlotte to a sold-out exhibition hall and no vacancies among the initial hotel blocks.

A survey of STAFDA’s distributor members for the association’s annual directory show 72% of its distributors sell threaded fasteners and adhesives/sealants; 71% drywall screws; 62% threaded rod; and 45% blind rivets.

The threaded fasteners ranked the 9th highest among the 35 product categories and adhesives & sealants came next at 10th.

Drill bits were the highest percentage product category with 82% of member distributors marketing. Closely following are blades and hand tools at 81% each.
Abrasives was the 4th highest category, followed by portable electric tools, anchors, safety equipment, cords/cable/lights ahead of threaded fasteners.

The lowest percentage category is cable installation tools at 24%.

Founded in 1976, STAFDA reports a total of 2,524 members.

In addition to the trade show, there are a variety of educational sessions, including STAFDA president Eric Grabowski giving the annual the Distribution State of the Industry address and Ben Battaglia of Robert Bosch Tool Corp. delivering the Associate State of the Industry speech.

The keynote address by Joe Gibbs, who coached four NFL Super Bowls and is a NASCAR team leader.

Sunday workshop speakers are: “Cloud & Mobile Computing – Two Trends You Can’t Ignore,” Jeff Gusdorf, BSW Consulting; “End of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Approach to Customers,” Abe WalkingBear Sanchez, A/R Management; “Pricing Strategies,” Steve Deist, Indian River Consulting Group; “Mergers & Acquisitions: How They Affect the Competitive Landscape,” Michael Marks, Indian River Consulting, and Jim Miller, Supply Chain Equity Partners; “The Manager’s Guide to Dealing with the New Workplace,” Kathryne Newton, Purdue University; and “Effective Goal Setting,” Tom Reilly, Reilly Training.

Alan Beaulieu of the Institute for Trend Research will present an economic forecast on Tuesday.
