U.S. Fastener Exports & Imports Grow in January

After falling 6% in December, U.S. fastener exports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) increased 7% to $307.6 million in January 2016, boosted by gains in Canada, Mexico and France, according to Datamyne data analyzed by GlobalFastenerNews.com.

The top five consumers of U.S. fastener exports in January were Mexico (up 12% month-to-month to $108.9 million); Canada (up 8.2% to $77.7 million); China (down 2% to $14.9 million); the UK (down 11.2% to $11.9 million); and France (up 13% to $9.6 million), according to Datamyne.

Imports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) to the U.S. rose 2% in January to $366.3 million.

The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. during January were Taiwan (up 4% month-to-month to $117.6 million); China (up 3.9% to $82.9 million); Japan (down 12.9% to $44.9 million); Germany (unchanged at $24.1 million); and Canada (up 31% to $24.1 million).

For 2015, U.S. fastener exports edged down 0.2% to $3.83 billion, while imports increased 2.1% to $4.98 billion, according to data compiled by GlobalFastenerNews.com.
