UK’s Carrington Wire Bought by Russian Wire Producer

Severstal-Metiz, one of the largest Russian wire manufacturers, acquired UK wire manufacturer Carrington Wire Limited from Acertec Holdings Ltd., Fastener & Fixing Europe reported.

CWL has three UK sites. The Cardiff Wales plant supplies cold heading wire. Another produces nails. In 2005 Carrington produced 144,000 tons of wire and wire products, generating sales of �77 million (US$134.7 million) and a 30% share of the UK market.

Severstal-Metiz has three production sites in Russia and one in Ukraine. It has 31.5% of the Russian market and is the country’s largest exporter of wire. Total production is 960,000 tons, with 250,000 tons exported. Severstal-Metiz is part of the Severstal Group, a Russia-based industrial group with assets in the steel, mining, automotive, machinery, transportation and other business. The group employs 150,000 people, operating more than 30 plants in 15 regions across Russia and in the U.S. and EU. Sales in 2004 totaled US$7 billion (Russian Rubles 193.9 billion).
